KARIOI PULPMILL

New Zealand’s pulp production experts

Annually Karioi Pulpmill produces 220,000 air dried metric ton (ADMT) of high yield BCTMP (Bleached Chemical Thermomechanical Pulp) from 100% Pinus Radiata grown in responsible Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC®) certified forests.  Locally grown, locally manufactured and servicing the high quality board producers of the world.

AB and AB+ Advanced board grades are engineered fibre products designed to enhance the advantages of Radiata Pine for production of folding boxboard with superior stiffness.

AB and AB+ are produced to 70% and 75% ISO Brightness, and 400mL CSF Freeness.

  • The high yield BCTMP (Bleached Thermomechanical Pulp) process maximises the use of the raw material in the end product.  WPI relies on forestry and timber residual fibre materials for the pulpmaking feedstock.  Increased yield and a minimal environmental footprint go hand in hand as the process is totally chlorine free (TCF).  Yields upwards of 97% are achieved by tuning processes for efficiency while keeping the customers end use in mind.  At each step throughout the pulpmaking process quality attributes such as bulk (to enhance customers product stiffness), fibre length, fibre distribution, brightness, are considered.  We engineer our product for our customers and our environment.

  • Our products are used for the manufacture of sustainable high quality folding boxboard packaging solutions.

Our high yield product is available at 400mL CSF, at 70 or 75 ISO Brightness, bleached using Totally Chlorine Free chemistry (TCF).

Product categories are either AB (advanced board), or AB+.  AB+ offers a shorter AFL (average fibre length) which aids formation properties for the board-maker.

Both products are utilised as bulk enhancing additives in the furnish mixture of our customers.
