  • Winstone Pulp International Limited (WPI) has two operational sites in the Ruapehu District, that manufacture wood pulp products (Karioi Pulpmill, a lower tier Major Hazard Facility) and sawn timber (Tangiwai Sawmill) from renewable plantation pine for domestic and export markets.

    The opportunities (Tangiwai Sawmill, Ohakune, Central North Island)

    We have multiple opportunities available for suitably qualified and experienced mechanical fitters, to join our maintenance team at Tangiwai Sawmill. These are permanent, fulltime positions. Day and evening work is available. Proven success in a similar role is essential. Tangiwai Sawmill is located close to the small yet well facilitated towns of Ohakune and Taihape.

    This is a great opportunity if you are keen to base yourself in or around the stunning Ruapehu region, spend time exploring the pure outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of the city and make a difference in a varied role.

    About you

    • Demonstrated technical ability;

    • Maintenance experience of heavy machinery and plant.

    • A working knowledge of hydraulics systems, and an ability to understand schematic drawings would be advantageous.

    • Experience in lathe and milling machinery.

    • Trade certificate in Fitting and Turning or a National Certificate in Mechanical Engineering (Level 4) or equivalent preferred.

    • Hold a Full Class One New Zealand driver’s license and hold or be able to obtain a Forklift endorsement.

    • Experience in an industrial setting, preferably Sawmilling.

    • Demonstrated awareness of, and utilisation of workplace Health and Safety systems.

    • Physically fit, able and mentally alert, including the ability to work in confined spaces and at heights.

    • The ability to participate in the on-call roster and to work overtime.

    The opportunities (Karioi Pulpmill and Tangiwai Sawmill, Ohakune, Central North Island)

    We have multiple opportunities available for suitably qualified and experienced people, preferably in a sawmilling environment, to join our Engineering teams at both the Karioi Pulpmill site, a Major Hazard Facility and our team at the Tangiwai Sawmill. These are permanent, fulltime positions. Karioi Pulpmill and Tangiwai Sawmill are both located close to the small yet well facilitated towns of Ohakune and Taihape.

    About you

    All candidate requirements include;

    • A minimum of Level 4 Electrical trade certificate

    o A full NZ EWRB registration and a current practising license

    o Demonstrated technical ability and proven success on site as part of the electrical team

    o Sound knowledge and experience with industrial machinery / plant

    o Maintenance experience in instrumentation and control systems

    • An exceptional team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.

    • Experience in an industrial manufacturing environment.

    • Hold a Full Class One New Zealand driver’s license and hold or be able to obtain a Forklift endorsement.

  • Winstone Pulp International Limited (WPI) is located in the Ruapehu District, Central North Island and has two operational sites that manufacture wood pulp products (Karioi Pulpmill) and sawn timber (Tangiwai Sawmill) from renewable plantation pine for domestic and export markets.

    Annually Karioi Pulpmill produces 220,000 air dried metric ton (ADMT) of high yield Bleached Chemical Thermomechanical Pulp (BCTMP).

    The opportunity (Karioi Pulpmill)

    We are currently seeking an experienced and qualified Mechanical Engineer to join the WPI team at Karioi. This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to base themselves in or around the stunning Ruapehu region, spend time exploring the pure outdoors away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and to make a difference in a varied role within an organisation committed to continuous improvement. The Pulpmill is located close to the small yet well facilitated towns of Ohakune and Taihape.

    About you

    To be successful in this role you will have.

    • a Bachelor of Engineering (mechanical).

    • a minimum of 5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Engineer.

    • experience in a large, industrial manufacturing or processing plant.

    • knowledge of pulpmill plant a plus.

    • a demonstrated ability to introduce, manage and / or maintain site assets through continuous improvement efforts on a situational, systemic, and strategic level.

    • able to troubleshoot and diagnose breakdowns to identify root causes and implement effective solutions.

    • excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a ‘can do’ attitude.

    • a strong health and safety focus and ability to work in an organised and disciplined way.

    • a current driver’s license (Restricted at minimum) and personal transport to get to and from work.

    The opportunities (Tangiwai Sawmill)

    We are currently seeking experienced Forklift Operators to join our team at Tangiwai Sawmill. These are permanent, fulltime positions.

    Despatch

    Hours of work are 48 hours per week, Monday – Friday, worked between 6.00am and 5.00pm.

    • Proven experience operating mobile plant is essential.

    • Proven experience loading trucks/ curtain siders is preferable.

    Processing

    Hours of work are 42 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, worked between 6.00am – 4.30pm.

    • Proven experience operating mobile plant is essential.

    About you:

    • Proven experience within the Sawmilling industry advantageous.

    • Holds a Full Class One New Zealand driver’s license, a workplace forklift safety certification (OSH) and preferably an ‘F’ endorsement.

    • An exceptional team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.

    • Physically fit, able and mentally alert.

    • Reliable and self-motivated.

    • Good time management and able to multitask.

    We are currently seeking motivated applicants to join our team at Tangiwai Sawmill.

    Permanent and fixed term (to 27 June 2024) opportunities are available. Gain valuable experience and on-job training whilst working within an experienced and knowledgeable team.

    Greenmill

    Hours of work are 42 hours per week. worked from Monday to Thursday.

    Availability is required for three shift patterns;

    1. 6.00am to 4.30pm (Days)

    2. 11.30am to 10.00pm (Afternoons)

    3. 2.00pm to 12.30am (Evenings).

    Rosters will be provided in advance. One of the three shift patterns will be worked to for a full week (Monday to Thursday).

    Drymill

    Hours of work are 42 hours per week, Monday – Thursday, worked between 6.00am – 4.30pm.

    About you:

    • Reliable and self-motivated.

    • An exceptional team player with a ‘can do’ attitude.

    • Physically fit, able and mentally alert.

    • A strong health and safety focus.

    • Demonstrated ability to operate automated or manually operated plant, or a demonstrated aptitude to learn.

    • Basic computer literacy.

    • Holds or is able to obtain a Class One driver’s license (currently holds Restricted at minimum)

    • Available to work overtime as required.

About you…

  • A genuine team player – we’re a large team, reliant on each other to ensure all the pieces of the puzzle fit together to safely get a quality product out on time.

  • Experienced in an industrial manufacturing plant – the Pulpmill is a Major Hazard Facility, the Sawmill a hazardous work area. Safety is paramount.

  • Computer literate – all our roles require some level of computer literacy from minimal to expert.

  • NCEA Level two (or equivalent) preferred at minimum for all roles. Some roles will require specific trade, vocational or professional (to post-graduate level) qualifications. Positions Descriptions detail the pre-requisite for each role.

  • Holds and maintains a Class One NZ driver’s license (Restricted at minimum).

  • Physically fit and mentally alert.

  • Eligible to work in New Zealand on an ongoing basis at the time of application. Able to successfully complete a preemployment medical and drug and alcohol test.
